Lana brushed some of her dark hair from her face, sat on one of the stools and working she was one of the only ones in the Coffee bean today. It seemed deserted. Hearing someone ask if she wanted anything to drink, Lana glanced up and gave her brief and gentle smile which always seemed to reach her eyes and glisten there.
“Oh – no thanks”. She was unsure as to whether that question had a hidden hint in it of “get something to drink or leave” and for a while contemplated going somewhere else to study. She could go back to her Aunts of course. But, the person who had asked her now shrugged and headed off to another table. The sums on her paper seemed particularly hard, and her mind kept wandering. Once or twice she had been thinking about Whitney,. Until she caught herself. At the minute, their relationship seemed solid. Or was she just kidding herself to believe that? Whatever, it was working out.
Packing up her books, she gently brought her bag up and placed them neatly within. Storing her pen in a similar fashion. She slid the bag loosely around her shoulder, thinking of leaving now anyway, when she saw someone else slip into the seat in front of her. Lana stayed behind.

Clark hadn’t intentionally come into the coffee bean after Lana, if anything she was sort of the last person he wanted to see after this morning’s embarrassing trip in the hall...ye talk about your bruised ego. In fact, he had just come in to do his homework, and Chloe was somewhere behind him, Pete however had gone home. Poor guy was grounded.
But, as fate would have it Clark wasn’t having much luck today. He wasn’t going to avoid Lana forever, but still. It was that sick feeling that got him, the dizziness, the nausea, that was why he had sat down, dumping his bags on the chair beside him. It always came over him when he least expected it, and right now it was worse than it had ever been before.
Leaning over, clutching his stomach, he waited for it to pass. I mean, it always did, didn’t it?

“Clark”, Lana gave a small smile, sitting back down. It was strange how little they seemed to come across each over lately to say they lived virtually next door. She saw him clutching at his stomach, and hastened to add, “Are you feeling okay?”. A faint worry in her voice. Lana, of course, had no idea why he had suddenly clutched at his stomach and probably couldn’t even hazard a decent guess.
She let her bag slide back to the floor, now deciding she might stay here for a bit. After all, homework was done and back at Nell’s it was boring. Nothing much to do other then ride the horses, and right now she didn’t want to do that. Didn’t want to over exhaust them, seems as they’d been out already. So Lana sat back down, and eyed Clark with a certain worry. She was a naturally serious and caring person, so it wasn’t as if you could expect any other reaction then the one she was giving right now.

He managed a slight smile as the pain receded, only to return in another, more intense wave of pain. What the hell was going on? He barely noticed her sit down, and other people were looking now, wondering what was going on with him. Then, the pain receded, and he could breathe again, didn’t feel like he was about to show everyone his lunch anymore. And this time it didn’t come back. It was still there, but it was bearable now. Lana, had sat back down, a little further away. Coincidence? Perhaps.
‘hey...I’m Ok....I must have eaten a bad jellybean or something.’ He said, trying to smile brightly, brush it off, but as ever, he still felt queasy. His eyes fell upon her features. Those words, those small sentences they had exchanged, where the longest they had ever traded. Neighbours yet they barely said a word to each other. It was strange, when you thought about it.

“A bad jellybean?”, Lana gave a slow softened smirk at that. She hadn’t noticed that Clark seemed to recover slightly when she had sat down a bit further away. Fiddling with the necklace she nearly always wore fro a moment, she ran a hand over the smooth surface of the small meteor rock there. Lana found the rock quite beautiful herself. At least the meteor shower had brought something good.
“It’s strange when you think about it, right? We’ve been next door and yet we’ve hardly ever had a proper conversation”. She gave a small laugh, which was gentle and airy. The sound itself nearly passing off as musical. Everything about Lana was innocent. The girl who was never wild or rogue. The girl who got on with her work, and cared about the feelings of others. The girl who was friendly with animals, and settled down in a relationship with Whitney. Which reminded Lana, he was supposed to have been meeting her today later on.

He smiled. ‘Ye...a bad jelly bean.’ in truth, he had no idea what it was that had made him feel sick. He only ever felt like this near Lana....and near the old factory. But, the two had nothing in common, and as far as he could tell there was no link. Perhaps it was just him being silly, and it was nerves rather than anything else. Yes, that is what it would be. Nerves. Even if it didn’t explain the factory, but he pushed that from his head for now. I mean, come on, he was talking to Lana Lang!
‘Ye, i guess it is kinda weird.’ He admitted, smiling a little. Kinda? It was really weird. He could count the words on his left hand they had said to each other before now. Four. Go on, count em. See, they fit on your left hand. He watched as she stroked the green gem that hung from her throat, the necklace he had never seen her without. ‘ never said before, but your necklace, it’s nice.’ Wahay! He was on a role!

“Oh”, Lana glanced down, and then smiled. She hadn’t even noticed she had been fiddling with it. “Ye, it’s always brought me good luck. Well, as far as I can see. Whitney seems to think that’s a ridiculous idea”. She gave a soft laugh, and shook her head in amusement. “I was just finishing off the math’s essay before you came here, but I’ve got a feeling it’s all wrong”. Lana’s strength wasn’t math’s, not really.
“Coffee?”, the woman who had been round earlier was now fussing around Clark and asking him similar questions seems as Lana hadn’t ordered anything to drink. Lana said nothing, though for a brief second she gave a smirk. She must have insulted the woman in some way earlier, by not drinking anything, but she hadn’t intentionally set out to do that. Lana had gentle mannerisms, and she would probably never hurt anyone really. She brushed a strand of dark brown hair behind her ear.

He smiled. ‘I dunnno, I guess Luck varies by person...’ He began, and then one of the waitresses was asking him if he wanted anything. He didn’t, not really, but ordered two anyway, one for him and one for Chloe to keep the peace. Yes, one for Chloe if she ever decided to show up. He still felt ill, but perhaps something warm would make him feel better.
Now that she had gone, to make the coffees he was guessing, he manage to turn round in his chair so that he was looking at her, still feeling uneasy, he couldn’t put up with this for much longer, it felt like he was being eaten from the inside out by some sort of acid. Trying to take his mind of it, he asked about her necklace. ‘It it an emerald or something?’
